The water feature was a superb success not only because it was so dramatic but it has strong symbolic meaning also. There are six layers forming a single column each independently filling with water. Each layer represented a culture or community in Oldham and the water flows from each tray into the water course of the tray below. This represented the interaction of all people of differing cultures passing on knowledge and experience.
