Being a front garden it was important to get the front wall correct. From the pedestrian viewpoint the front wall has a framing effect and it is the first thing they see. The house has a bold shape with many facets, none more so than the large first floor window.  There are multiple roof parts with strong lines and a 90° bend connects the two together. All this added complexity warrented a bold and chuncky front wall with pillars.
